Clues for the Paradigmatic Development of Online Qualitative Methods

ABSTRACT Objective: in this paper, we problematize how online methods were reduced to mere adaptations from previous data collection techniques, and then discuss some of the idiosyncratic properties scope may drive development future, paradigmatic, qualitative methods. Proposition: identified five clues for paradigmatic methods: (1) new socialities allowed by interactions; (2) processes involved asserting identities selves online; (3) increasing difficulty distinguishing what is private public online, does privacy mean context; (4) increase participants’ agency research; (5) declining distinction between offline social phenomena. Conclusion: using ontological epistemological assumptions that do not consider specificities experiences, focusing excessively on adapting known settings, researchers are bound conceive experience operate it categories.
